John Piper on the prosperity gospel

I think this is something to consider.

Whoa- Piper getting amped up!!! I am sick of the prosperity and word-faith type of preaching myself. "Sow your money into my ministry and you will get even more back." "God can't bless you until you pay up."

What the heck???

I believe God will bless some people with prosperity, but not just because you got conned into giving your last $100 to TBN, and not just because you asked for it, and not just because you say "I believe I will be rich."

What the heck???

God rewards those who are faithful to Him according to His will. If you want to be blessed by God, put your faith in Jesus, completely surrender to Him, be obedient to His Word and the Spirit, and be thankful for whatever is in His will for you to receive (which may not be that prosperous by worldly standards, but your eternal reward will be beyond measure - hence "eternal").

Thanks for posting, Amanda.

What the heck???

Hey Mark, here's the way I see it: if knowing Jesus and having salvation only means getting new cars or a million dollars, but still going to hell for eternity, then it's worthless. However, if it means having my sins forgiven and living in heaven forever, then I don't need any of that other stuff.

hi amanda... thanks for commenting on my blog. I don't believe in that distorted prosperity gospel. But then again, I believe that poverty has been nailed to the cross along with sickness and sin.

I believe there is an advantage to believing in Jesus. I believe in tithing and sowing into the work of God. I believe God blesses the people who are faithful with the money that He blesses us with. Some things I don't agree with John Piper. I believe that Jesus is sufficient in our loss AND our prosperity. I believe that Jesus promised abundant life. I believe we have grace to have sufficiency in ALL things to abound in the Work of God, good work. =)

Be blessed Amanda!

Great video! I have so many friends that get sucked into the prosperity word of faith "gospel". I am going to make sure they see this. Enjoy your blog.
